The New Carlsberg Foundation’s Art Awards 2022

Every year, the New Carlsberg Foundation marks the birthday of brewer Carl Jacobsen, the founder of the Foundation, by handing out its Danish art awards at a reception for professionals in the assembly hall of the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek. By recognizing and highlighting the achievements of artists and museum professionals over time, the awards benefit the Danish art world at large and are thus a natural element of the Foundation’s work.

The New Carlsberg Foundation’s Art Awards 2021

The New Carlsberg Foundation’s Art Awards are given in recognition of special contributions to the Danish art and museum landscape. Four art awards were recently handed out. The New Carlsberg Foundation’s Artist Grant is awarded to both Nina Beier and Kathrine Ærtebjerg. Director of the Hirschsprung Collection Gertrud Oelsner receives Carl Jacobsen’s Museum Professional Grant. And the New Carlsberg Foundation’s Honorary Grant is awarded to curator Kjeld Kjeldsen at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art.

Enlargement of the New Carlsberg Foundation’s Board of Directors

The Carlsberg Foundation has appointed two new members to the Board of Directors of the New Carlsberg Foundation. Lisette Vind Ebbesen, director of Art Museums of Skagen, and Toke Lykkeberg, director of the exhibition space Tranen, will join the board of Brewer Carl Jacobsen’s old foundation on 1 April. The historic enlargement of the Board from three to five members is part of the ongoing remodelling of the New Carlsberg Foundation with an eye to embracing an increasingly diverse and dynamic Danish art scene.

New Carlsberg Foundation Research Initiative 2020

The New Carlsberg Foundation invites applications for individual research fellowships within the foundation’s scope of activities. Three types of grants are available: (1) PhD fellowships (up to DKK 1.5 million per grant), (2) postdoc fellowships (up to DKK 1.8 million per grant) and (3) individual project funding. The New Carlsberg Foundation’s Research Initiative was launched in 2010 with the aim of generating new research-based knowledge about art while building a connection between university and museum research.

The master brewer’s letters to be published in new digital archive

A new digital archive consisting of 759 letters and documents penned by J. C. Jacobsen, the founder of Carlsberg, is now opening to public access. Among other content, the archive includes letters home from travels and 132 letters to his son, Carl, written between 1866 and 1870.

Per Arnoldi’s artistic climate warning in Davos

When the world’s economic leaders meet in Davos later this months, they will encounter an eye-catching and thought-provoking contribution from the Danish visual artist Per Arnoldi. The New Carlsberg Foundation has supported the artistic development of Arnoldi’s animation film GLOBAL WARNING / GLOBAL WARMING, which will be part of the official programme at this year’s meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

New Director of the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek

The Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek Board of Directors has appointed museum director Gertrud Hvidberg-Hansen as new director of the Glyptotek in Copenhagen. Gertrud Hvidberg-Hansen will take up the post on 1 March 2020 and hence leave her current post as director of Faaborg Museum.

Christine Buhl Andersen appointed new Chairman of the New Carlsberg Foundation

The Carlsberg Foundation has appointed the successor to Karsten Ohrt, who earlier this year stood down as Chairman of the board of the New Carlsberg Foundation. The new Chairman will be Christine Buhl Andersen, who is currently Director of the New Carlsberg Glyptotek.
