‘You begin down here, in the corner …’ These are Erik A Frandsen’s opening words in the film that follows him at work in the studio on the Danish island of Falster and at exhibition openings in Portugal, Switzerland, New York and other places around the world. This portrait is one of the many films on Danish artists that JJ Film produced with funding from the New Carlsberg Foundation.

The films have been broadcast by DR, the national Danish Broadcasting Corporation, but have otherwise led an unreasonably quiet life. Now, they have been digitized and are made freely available on our website. More will be added on an ongoing basis, some produced by JJ Film, others by the New Carlsberg Foundation itself.

‘It is important for us to ensure that the excellent films we have funded over the years do not perish and disappear but are instead made accessible to everyone. Therefore, we have digitized them, and we will continue to add more,’ says Karsten Ohrt, chairman of the New Carlsberg Foundation.

Among the artists portrayed in the films are Kaspar Bonnén, Kathrine Ærtebjerg, Olafur Eliasson and Ingvar Cronhammar as well as the late artists Robert Jacobsen, Wilhelm Freddie, Ejler Bille and Carl-Henning Pedersen and Hans Scherfig.

Enjoy!
