The New Carlsberg Foundation now is launching the third and last round of the postdoc programme that the foundation initiated in 2014.

The New Carlsberg Foundation funds each position with a fixed amount of DKK 0.5 million a year, totalling DKK 1.5 million per position. The remaining funding is provided by the universities and museums that are involved in the given project.

The procedure for the postdoc programme is that an art museum/exhibition venue (or a partnership of museums/exhibition venues; in special cases including history museums) applies to the foundation for a postdoc project. The application must include a general description of the project’s research area and its relevance to the museum, reference to preliminary agreement with a university for employment and provisions for residual funding.

Museum-relevant research areas include topics pertaining to art studies in the broadest sense, insofar as they are relevant to the activities of the museum(s) behind the application. This may involve more traditional art history/theory studies related to museum collections etc. as well as other topics related to the museum’s role in society in general: strategy, curating, marketing, communication etc.

The deadline for submitting the application to the New Carlsberg Foundation is 14 December 2016.

The foundation’s board selects the projects that will receive funding. The postdoc projects are then advertised openly by the applicant university within the relevant disciplinary field.
