Who and what does the grant cover? 

Danish museums, primarily art museums, can apply for financial support for the acquisition of works of art at auction by Danish and foreign artists.

The foundation does not support costs for shipping, insurance, framing and/or conservation in connection with acquisitions either in Denmark or abroad.

Application process 

  1. Submit the application through the foundation’s online application system.
  2. Notify the secretariat by email that an urgent application has been submitted. Write to nsp@ncf.dk.
  3. The board assesses urgent applications on an ongoing basis. The applications are either approved (yielding partial or full support) or declined.
  4. The applicant receives notification on the result through the foundation’s online application system.
  5. Immediately after the auction has taken place, the status of the acquisition must be reported to the foundation through the online application system. 

Criteria 

The application must concern one or more important works that make a significant and relevant contribution to the museum’s collection. 

The application must contain: 

Applications that do not meet the following requirements will not be considered. 

  • One PDF file of max. 10 pages. 

All application material must be compiled and attached as one combined PDF file of no more than 10 pages. 

The (max.) 10 pages must include: 

  • Master data: Artist, title, year, materials, dimensions.
  • Photo of the work(s).
  • Statement describing how the acquisition would contribute to the museum’s collection and acquisition policy. Max. 1 page.
  • Statement describing the work’s position and significance within the artist’s practice and production. Max. 1 page.
  • If multiple works are applied for at once, provide a list ranking them in order of priority.
  • Price estimate from the auction house.
  • Date of auction.
  • Documentation of provenance for acquisitions of works by deceased artists.
  • CV for living artist(s). Max 1 page. CV is not required for deceased artists.
  • Financing plan. 
    The financing plan must include information on any co-financing and other funding already applied for/granted. 

Reporting 

The foundation will request the grant recipient to submit a photo of the work, master data, and information on the final purchase price after the acquisition has been made. Any transfer of the funds will be made to the museum listed as the applicant. Requests for the transfer of the funds should be submitted no later than three months after the grant date.
