Based on a concept and design by Per Arnoldi, an exhibition featuring his latest, dramatic image will have a strong presence in the streets of Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens from 3 September. Initially in posters and later in short films. In Arnoldi’s clear, condensed pictorial style, the art campaign is a global warning of the threat of global warming.

International collaboration

The Climate Group, which organizes Climate Week NYC, and JCDecaux, the world’s biggest supplier of outdoor advertising space, has collaborated with the Danish artist about the campaign in New York. The New Carlsberg Foundation has supported the artistic development of Arnoldi’s climate comment, whose presence in outdoor advertising spaces in the metropolis also marks the opening of the UN’s General Assembly on 17 September; a forum where the severe and urgent climate threats are high on the agenda.

17 million views

On 16 September the visibility of the campaign will be intensified with a series of animated editions of the poster image. The short films (15 seconds’ duration) will be placed in strategic, high-visibility locations in JCDecaux’s electronic advertising spaces in the area around the UN building in central New York. Here they will run round the clock until the end of the month.

JCDecaux estimates that GLOBAL WARNING / GLOBAL WARMING will be seen more than 17 million times during the period of 3–30 September.

The UN’s General Assembly may have provided the specific occasion for Arnoldi’s artistic climate comment, but with its clear universal language, GLOBAL WARNING / GLOBAL WARMING reaches far beyond New York. The Danish artist has therefore launched the website warningglobalwarming.com, where anyone can download and share the climate comment in a variety of formats.
