A country full of art
Our goal is to see a country where art is alive and present everywhere. In towns and cities, museums, buildings and landscapes. Filling a country with art means making room for creativity, reflection and new ideas.
Art nourishes our inner life. It gives us a voice and an outlook – also towards other countries and cultures that might expand our understanding of the world that we all share.
Art is for everyone. Art is not a luxury but a necessity. We believe in the potential and significance of art for society and for our shared culture.
Art challenges familiar assumptions, sparks conversations and helps us understand ourselves and each other better. Since 1902, it has therefore been the mission of the New Carlsberg Foundation to bring the best works of art to the widest possible audience.
Art for museums
Art plays a significant role for our critical and nuanced engagement with the world. Therefore, art should be present where it is accessible to everyone. Museums, art centres and exhibition venues have a key role to play in this regard and can therefore apply for financial support for acquisitions and exhibitions.
We support
• Acquisitions of works of art for collections in Danish art museums
• Acquisitions of art by Danish artists for collections in recognized art museums abroad
• Exhibitions at Danish museums, art centres and exhibition venues
• Exhibitions of art by Danish artists at art institutions abroad

Public art projects
One of the foundation’s key goals is making art and art experiences accessible in the spaces and surroundings we share on a daily basis: buildings, urban spaces and landscapes. Therefore, we welcome applications from municipalities and institutions with open public access for donations of art projects and works of art in settings where many people will be able to access and enjoy the art.
We support
• Site-specific art projects and works of art in urban spaces and in institutions with free and open public access
• Site-specific art projects in the form of landscape architecture and garden design

• PhD and postdoc projects in the field of art research
• Individual research projects
