Selected grants

Important video installation by the German contemporary artist and theorist Hito Steyerl has now been added to the permanent collection of Kunsten Museum of Modern Art in Aalborg. With computer game aesthetics, humour and impactful sensory qualities, SocialSim examines serious topics, such as police violence and social conformity and regimentation. The acquisition was made possible by a grant from the New Carlsberg Foundation.

With the theme of ‘Landscapes of Care’, Copenhagen Architecture Festival begins on 7 October. The wide-ranging festival programme was created with support from the Danish Arts Foundation, The Dreyer Foundation, Realdania and the New Carlsberg Foundation.

When the UN General Assembly convenes for its 76th session in New York, the Danish artist group SUPERFLEX presents bold and striking climate statements both in Central Park and on the facade of the iconic UN Building. The project Interspecies Assembly, which is supported by the New Carlsberg Foundation, among others, is presented on 21–24 September and can also be accessed online.

Ferdinand Ahm Krag’s works call to mind nature’s wondrous structures and processes. Thanks to a donation from the New Carlsberg Foundation, Rogue Planet II and The Book for Traversing Eternity have now been included in the collection of Esbjerg Kunstmuseum.

Tate Modern has in recent years had a dedicated focus on purchasing Danish art. Most recently, significant works of art by SUPERFLEX and Olafur Eliasson have been added to the gallery’s collection thanks to a donation from the New Carlsberg Foundation.

With expressive brushstrokes, L. A. Ring presents a sweeping view of the landscape in this painting of fields with wild flowers near the Danish town of Frederiksværk. The painting makes an important addition to the collection at Øregaard Museum in an acquisition made possible by support from the New Carlsberg Foundation.

With Nu, hvor ingenting er, hvad det var – om forvandling og eksistens (Now that nothing is what it was: About transformation and existence) the Danish sculptor Veo Friis Jespersen has created a series of poetic reliefs for the courtyard garden of the Danish Institute at Athens. The decorative project was realized with support from the New Carlsberg Foundation.

On 27–29 August you can take a boat trip through Copenhagen’s waterways to experience contemporary performance art, as the city serves as a stage for performances unfolding in surprising locations along bridges and canals. The project was realized with support from the New Carlsberg Foundation.

Nature has always had a presence in Harboe Flensburg’s works, but mainly as background and contrast to meticulous interiors. In two new paintings that Museum Salling recently acquired with support from the New Carlsberg Foundation, nature is the dominant topic.

The Greenlandic-Danish artist Pia Arke was a pioneer in addressing the complicated relationship between Denmark and Greenland in art. From her dual position with bonds to both countries, Arke offers a significant and personal gaze on the two nations and their mutual relationship in her works.

With support from the Augustinus Foundation and the New Carlsberg Foundation, Museum Jorn has acquired a monumental work of art by the German artist Markus Lüpertz. Subsequently, the artist personally made a very generous donation to the museum of an additional 52 works of art. The museum in Silkeborg is currently showing a superb selection.

With a collection of leathery gloved bronze hands Ebbe Stub Wittrup activates a vocabulary that can only be conveyed by hand signs. With support from the New Carlsberg Foundation, the installation now becomes part of the art museum Randers Kunstmuseum’s collection of Danish contemporary art.

Slime and mud are just two of the words that are currently climbing up the walls of Holstebro Kunstmuseum (Holstebro Art Museum). In an exhibition that includes several textual pieces, the American artist Lawrence Wiener examines the potential materialization of art. With support from the New Carlsberg Foundation the museum has now acquired one of the principal pieces from the exhibition for its permanent collection.

Per Kirkeby’s magnificent painting Leiser Wellenschlag Grün (Softly Lapping Waves Green) from 2005 becomes a part of one of oldest and largest museums in the United States, the Art Institute of Chicago. It is added to the collection thanks to a donation from the New Carlsberg Foundation.

In Resurrection Klara Lilja draws on the alchemist tradition and the search for eternal life. With support from the New Carlsberg Foundation, Horsens Art Museum has now purchased this graduation piece for its collection.

The New Carlsberg Foundation establishes its second Restart Fund for art venues. Art museums, art halls and non-commercial exhibition venues can apply to the fund until 9 August.
